The Official Bob Almond Website: updated monthly!
The Bob Almond Inkwell: updated bimonthly??? Print E-mail

HI, and HAPPY NEW YEAR! I want to apologize for not living up to my promise "Update Monthly" since the fall for those of you who make regular stops here (I appreciate you all sincerely and never take your support for granted...ask those who tell me they do at shows I attend). But as usual in such scenarios, I took on a job.  I haven't had an actual inking assignment (as opposed to ongoing commissions and a short-term teaching gig last winter) since Marvel's Heroes for Hire in the spring-fall of 2011. So it was important to take on the work which was offered by my friend artist Geof Isherwood in the late fall. He'd been doing some work for the Canadian publisher Heroes of the North and asked me if I'd like to ink the series Green Force which he was penciling (and lettering and coloring). The series will be offered digitally first and subsequently collected in a trade collection. Issue one is done and I start issue two later this week. When I have more info or graphics I will try to post them here.

In the meantime in-between issues I'm trying to catch up with a lot of items that have fallen by the wayside like my taxbook, a lot of Inkwell Awards stuff, personal family matters, my health, and, of course, this update.  I know some areas of the site need attention like my Store page (to update new color prints and mark some discounted trades as 'sold') and adding the new gig to my Credits page. I'm supposed to do a commission this week so I'll subsequently also owe a new Gallery entry.

I don't know when my next update will take place or how long I'll be busy with work (if all goes as planned, there will be another project down the road to follow Green Force). But I'll do my best to keep you abreast of all the developments here.

Two Shows in November! Print E-mail
Written by Bob Almond
Monday, 17 September 2012 17:35
As mentioned in February I will be attending the Rhode Island Comic-Con  for the first time on November 3-4. Well, now I can add and confirm attending the Albany Comic-Con on November 11 after months of keeping the show only on a tentative status (I'm listed on the site but not yet in the promo poster). The Inkwell Awards will be present at both events. Volunteers Alyn Bergstrom will be at RICC and Joe Goulart at both spots. Joe Sinnott will be with us in Albany where we will be debuting the 2nd Joe Sinnott Inking Challenge book for him to sign!

400_js_creator_chronicles_dvdThis item "Creator Chronicles: Joe Sinnott" is solicited in the most-recent Diamond Previews catalog for November (although I don't know the actual shipping date) from Amdale Media. I was interviewed a year and a half ago by Robin Dale at Pittsburgh Comicon on behalf of Joe Sinnott but I'm among many, much more-impressive creators with segments. Check out the first link above for more info!

The Herald News spotlights this guy! Print E-mail

5911090EI guess September is Bob Almond month at the Herald News based in Fall River, MA.  First I was mentioned in a sentence in an article on the YEAH Program I participated in last winter. From that interview the reporter Deborah Allard decided to interview me since I was the next city away. I was excited because after 20+ years in the business of comic book inking I'd never been interviewed at home before, only via emails, phone calls, or live at conventions. The main article was posted yesterday online, as well as a related article showing some photos she took of me in my room with commission pieces in the works. Some facts are incorrect but that's par for the course for such interviews where there's no time to have the subject proofread the draft like in other formats. Deb's sending me a physical copy of the paper and I appreciate your kindness, courtesy and consideration. (Below, me in my studi inking a recent Scott McDaniel commission--all photos by Deborah Allard).

Happy birthday, Terry Austin! Print E-mail

austinbdaypartygroupshotFirst off, sorry about the penguin and muslim chanting at this site which took place for maybe a week or so.  I guess someone got off on hacking my website.  But thanks to friends alerting me of the dilemma and buddy Rich Lane working his magic everything's been properly restored with nothing lost.

I had heard from friends some time back about a surprise birthday party for Terry Austin in upper-state New York where there resides a considerable artist community and one that I hadn't visited since my last Bernie Wrightson Halloween party back in the early '90s which had led to me getting professionally hired in the comic book industry.  But not wanting to party crash, I simply sighed and wished everyone well.  Then last Tuesday Joe Sinnott and I were on the phone and he went the full mile to get me to attend the event. Joe wanted me there badly so how could I refuse?  I had to make plans within 24 hours and recruited my chum Enrique (Zeke) Savory, Jr. to act as my travel mate to Christina's Restaurant in Kingston on August 23rd.  It was an honor to be invited to attend and be reunited with some old friends in their home vacinity again such as Todd Dezago and Joe (the organizers), Joe and Hilary Staton, Walt and Louise Simonson, Fred Hembeck, Janice Chiang, as well as mu pal from my own neck of the woods Craig Rousseau, Joe's daughter Kathy Sinnott and her husband Rex who I met for the first time, Dan Green, a legendary ink artist that I also met for the first time, Christopher Irving and his travel mate who's name escapes me, and, of course, Terry himself!  Merriment was had by all!  Regretfully, Joe's son Mark couldn't make the affair due to his post office work schedule, even though he was instrumental in setting the plan in motion. Some others who had to unfortunately decline attending were John Byrne, Tom Palmer, Herb Trimpe, Jim Starlin and Ron Marz. While I'm still not sure I can attend the Albany Con in November in the same general area, I look forward to returning to this community again before long.
